Apple announces the HomePod Mini 2, but it isn’t ready for Siri AI at launch

Summary

Apple's HomePod Mini 2 is a minor refresh of the compact smart speaker with improved audio and new color LED options, but notably lacks the promised Siri AI features at launch despite being announced as a key upgrade. The device ships October 30, with Siri AI functionality coming later via software update.

Pros

  • ✓New color LED options available
  • ✓Improved audio capabilities over previous generation
  • ✓Siri AI features promised for future update

Cons

  • ✕Siri AI unavailable at launch despite being marketed as a key feature
  • ✕Six-year wait between generations with minimal physical changes
  • ✕LED color upgrades are incremental rather than transformative
